¿Pobreza como accidente o como diseño? América Latina, una región rica en recursos naturales, diversidad cultural y potencial humano, es paradójicamente uno de los territorios más desiguales del planeta. Décadas de políticas económicas, modelos de desarrollo, intervenciones externas e ideologías locales han moldeado una estructura social en la que la pobreza no solo persiste, sino que parece estratégicamente preservada. En este contexto, debemos preguntarnos: ¿la pobreza es una falla del sistema o su producto deliberado? Durante mucho tiempo, se ha presentado la pobreza como un fenómeno inevitable, un resultado accidental de los vaivenes económicos o de la supuesta incapacidad de ciertos sectores sociales para "progresar". Esta narrativa, ampliamente difundida por medios, elites políticas y organismos internacionales, ha contribuido a invisibilizar las raíces estructurales de la desigualdad. Sin embargo, cada vez más evidencias apuntan hacia una realidad incómoda: la pobreza en América Latina no es simplemente una consecuencia involuntaria, sino un elemento funcional a ciertos intereses de poder. Este libro nace de la necesidad de desmontar los discursos que normalizan la exclusión social y de analizar, con rigor y espíritu crítico, las políticas públicas, marcos jurídicos, decisiones económicas y narrativas culturales que han contribuido -y aún contribuyen- a reproducir la desigualdad. Desde reformas tributarias regresivas hasta sistemas educativos excluyentes; desde la concentración mediática hasta la criminalización de la protesta social; desde tratados de libre comercio hasta subsidios corporativos disfrazados de inversión social: cada capítulo de esta obra se adentra en una de las múltiples capas del diseño que sostiene la pobreza. Este no es un libro de resignación, sino de comprensión y acción. No pretende victimizar a los pueblos de América Latina, sino evidenciar cómo han sido históricamente marginados de las decisiones que les afectan. Tampoco apunta a una única culpabilidad, sino a una red compleja de actores -internos y externos, estatales y privados- que han contribuido, por omisión o conveniencia, a mantener el statu quo. Al final, si queremos un continente justo, sostenible y verdaderamente democrático, debemos atrevernos a mirar de frente esta pregunta: ¿la pobreza que vemos es el resultado de lo que permitimos, o de lo que hemos sido condicionados a aceptar como inevitable? Este libro es un llamado a cuestionar, a despertar y a reconstruir. Porque la desigualdad no es destino, sino decisión.
