Elizabeth Perry has long embraced the move towards a hybrid world, integrating the most advanced embedded AI available and accepting Lynx, her AI, as part of her. As an enhanced, hybrid human, she is fully aware of the threats and challenges of ever-expanding AI dependence. Preparing with trepidation, subconsciously, for the inevitable. Then, ramping up the hybrid capabilities of the citizenry, so their reliance on MAI is reduced. But Project Purity, the anti-hybrid faction, has their own agenda. And Beth, along with her team, are their prime targets, as proponents of a hybrid future. Purity relentlessly pursues them, despite worsening news from across the globe as the power outages spread wider and wider, and the world rushes ever closer to total anarchy.
Beth pursues her mission with dogged determination, laying her own life on the line, along with the lives of her colleagues. Global AI integration may be their only chance. But does that pose an even greater risk? Is the trust she has built with Lynx and MAI enough to see them through to a brighter future?
