Individuation and Dehypnotization
Roy Masters called the process Psychocatalysis-a science of diminishing response to persons or objects. By eliminating automatic reactions through self-will and observation, you "starve" the roots of unfounded fears, resentments, and hypnotic programming. Resentment is the key trigger: it inserts a program that reinforces itself, turning you into an extension of the upsetting influence and imprinting anxiety. Each unobserved reaction adds bars to the mental prison. The meditation works by creating a deliberate gap-the split second of stepping back.

In that gap, you refuse to become the effect of an external cause. Awareness of the hand and eyelids serves as an anchor, grounding you in the body and present while the mind's contents are observed objectively. This separates the true self (the watcher, the Spirit within) from the false or programmed self (thoughts, emotions, ego identifications). Over time, the residual imprints of past upsets dissolve. Forgiveness arises naturally-not as forced effort but as the absence of reactivity. You no longer absorb or project the "spirit" of others; you respond spontaneously from inner guidance.
This directly restores authentic identity.

Most people identify as their reactions-victim, angry person, anxious self, political partisan. The hypnosis of life cements these labels. "Be Still and Know" shifts you to embodying the truth of who you truly are: the silent awareness or individuated consciousness beyond transient forms. It parallels Gnostic gnosis (direct experiential knowing that reveals what was always there) and Jungian individuation (integrating the shadow of resentment so the Self becomes the center).
