Am 21. Dezember 2012 sollte laut dem Maya-Kalender die Welt untergehen. Tat sie aber nicht. Doch an diesem Tag wurden weltweit 113 mysteriöse Manuskripte entdeckt - jedes einzelne in Blut geschrieben von einem unbekannten Autor. Nachdem mehrere Dutzend unerklärliche Todesfälle die Finder dieser Manuskripte ereilt hatten, wurde beschlossen, sie für immer in einem geheimen Tresor unter dem Vatikan wegzuschließen. Es heißt, dass jeder, der diese Geschichten liest, sterben wird - und so werden sie heute als "Die verfluchten Manuskripte" bezeichnet.

Im Dezember 2020 tauchten erneut neue Manuskripte auf der ganzen Welt auf. "Witch" war eines davon.

Manuskript 12.20-01 wurde im Mai 2021 in Aldershot, Vereinigtes Königreich, von dem örtlichen Wanderer Bryan Potter entdeckt. Er fand es unter einem Ziegelhaufen mitten im Wald vergraben. Bryan Potter starb eine Woche später an einer nicht diagnostizierten Herzerkrankung. Der folgende Text wurde in seinen Rücken geritzt.
