About the Book

Have you ever had a worry that just wouldn't go away?

Gertie has one too. Some days it follows her like a cloud - grey, heavy, and just won't go away. It's there when she wakes up. It's there at breakfast. And on the first day of her new school, it's bigger than ever!

But Gertie is about to discover something surprising about worry clouds - and about herself.

Gertie's Worry Cloud is a tender, reassuring story for every child who has ever felt their worries are too big to handle. With warmth, honesty, and hope, it gently reminds young readers that they are not alone - that even the darkest clouds can lift and that they truly can do hard things!

Children will learn how to identify their anxiety and learn some coping techniques to help cope with anxiety and overcome it, just like Gertie did with a little help from her foster mother, Anna.

A comforting story for anxious children - and an essential tool for the parents and professionals who love them.

Resources for caregivers plus coloring pages added.

About the Author :
Izzy was fortunate to have worked in human services for decades, including as the director of an organization and as a counselor in an acute care behavioral health hospital working with individuals dually diagnosed with substance abuse disorder and acute psychiatric disorders. In addition, during the course of her career treating addiction and creating greater awareness of the disease, she worked with people suffering from Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). This little-known genetic disorder creates growth hormone deficiency, behavior challenges, and a food addiction with a relentless hunger so intense that someone suffering from PWS can eat so much that their stomach ruptures or suffers necrosis (tissue death) due to extreme hunger (hyperphagia), inability to feel full, and slowed stomach emptying, leading to life-threatening complications like sepsis and death, if left unsupervised.Izzy also served as a founding board member in developing a family outreach program for a well-known East Coast substance abuse treatment center, the first of its kind in the area to reach out to families who have loved ones suffering from addiction. But most importantly, she has an adult daughter who struggles with addiction and intimately knows the chaos, heartbreak, and insanity it can create in people who love someone struggling with the disease. It sure ain't easy. So, she developed these journals and books to create greater awareness of the disease and how it affects the addicts' loved ones, because the truth is, these loved ones are also in recovery. They are in recovery from the multitude of emotional and financial consequences of their loved one's addiction, even though they may never have used a drug themselves. Ever. Her adult and children's books are not magic pills designed to create an instant state of perfect mental health, but instead, serve as a tool for self-reflection and personal growth. Good mental health requires daily work; and regardless of how well-adjusted we think we are, we all have issues. Addiction will compound those issues. Her journals are also for those artists, writers, and creatives who like to get their words and imagery on paper. Izzy is her pen name.
