Aleksandr zu lieben heißt, eine Wahrheit zu akzeptieren, älter als Erinnerung, Blutlinien zu akzeptieren, die Königreiche und Götter durchqueren. Es bedeutet, ihn zu wählen, selbst wenn seine Schatten weit genug reichen, um die Welt zu verschlingen.

Und trotzdem wähle ich ihn.

Ich wurde geschmiedet, um über Monster zu herrschen, und man fürchtet mich, weil ich selbst eines bin. Jahrhunderte der Herrschaft halten die Dunkelheit in mir gefesselt. Wut. Hunger. Macht, die selbst die Götter vernichten würden, kämen sie ihr auf die Spur.

Dann erweckt Scarlett etwas in mir, das ich nie fühlen sollte.

Sie beruhigt den Sturm, ohne es zu wollen. Ihre Gegenwart legt die uralte Seele in mir still, als erkenne sie in ihr eine Gleichgestellte. Ihr Gegenstück. Das Einzige, das mich zurückziehen kann, wenn ich am Abgrund stehe, alles zu werden, was man fürchtet.

Ich habe Reiche zu Grabe getragen für weniger als die Drohung, sie zu verlieren. Ich würde Reiche auseinanderreißen, bevor ich zuließe, dass irgendjemand an das rührt, was das Schicksal an mich gebunden hat.

Sie ist nicht zerbrechlich. Sie ist nicht menschlich in der Kunst, wie die Welt es versteht. Sie ist Erbe. Macht. Mein Verderben und mein Anker.

Und wenn ihre Liebe bedeutet, das zu entfesseln, was ich seit Jahrhunderten eingesperrt halte, dann lasse die Welt erzittern.

Denn ohne sie war ich nie dafür bestimmt zu überleben.
