About the Book

Moamen Samir is an Egyptian poet and writer born on 15-11-1975. He is associated with the "nineties generation" of Egyptian modernist poetry and has been described as a "post-modern" poet, having moved beyond the poetic styles of the seventies and eighties. Samir's work spans various genres, including poetry, theatre, and critical essays, with a total of 35 published books. He is an award-winning writer whose works have been translated into multiple languages. This diverse background and international recognition adds complexity and depth to the collection. The translations of his work into English and French by several translators from different countries... highlight its global appeal and the significance of his voice in contemporary poetry. Many of the poems in the collection are characterized by a dreamlike, surrealist quality with recurring motifs of ancestors, forests, birds, and shadows... These elements blend to create a sense of timelessness and blur the lines between reality and the subconscious. The concept of memory is central to many poems, often presented through fragmented recollections and dreamlike sequences... The poems explore how the past shapes the present, and how personal and cultural histories are intertwined. Identity is another key theme, with the poems exploring the individual's place within the world and the search for meaning and belonging... The speaker often grapples with feelings of alienation and displacement while seeking connection and understanding. The use of symbolism is prominent, with recurring images of animals (tigers, birds, fish, wolves)..., natural landscapes (forests, rivers, mountains)..., and the interplay of light and darkness..., all contributing to the poems' layered and multifaceted meanings. The poems often employ a first-person perspective, giving the reader intimate access to the speaker's thoughts, emotions, and experiences.... This creates a strong sense of immediacy and invites the reader to share the speaker's journey. There is a constant exploration of the relationship between the body and the soul, and their connection to the natural world... The speaker often seems to be in a liminal state, moving between different realms of consciousness. In "Tigres, arbre et souvenir", the speaker's experiences of falling into a trap, embracing a tree, and feeling nostalgia highlight themes of vulnerability, connection with nature, and longing. "Personne ne nous attend à l'intérieur" explores themes of isolation and existential questioning, with the speaker noting, "Personne ne nous attend à l'intérieur", which is a recurring sentiment in the collection....
