This anthology edited by the American writer, philosopher, and patron of the arts Alain Locke brings together some of the most influential pieces of African American works from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Featuring the voices of Zora Neale Thurston, W. E. B. Du Bois, and Langston Hughes, Locke included commentary on the emergence of the New Negro Movement, also known as the Harlem Renaissance. The New Negro is considered to be the definitive text on the movement.

The recipient of several audiobook awards for narration and an Odyssey Honor for G. Neri's Ghetto Cowboy, he was named one of AudioFile's Best Voices of the Year for 2012 and 2013. Charon Normand-Widmer is an anthropologist with a background in biology. When not reading textbooks for fun, she likes to spend her time hiking in the woods or dancing. Earl Sewell is a writer, instructor, podcaster, and audiobook narrator who has lent his talents to voiceover, eLearning, animation, and corporate narration. He enjoys reading and participating in Ironman Triathlons. Bill Andrew Quinn has been narrating audiobooks for a myriad of publishers since 1992. A nationally recognized voice actor, he has done campaigns for Coke Zero, ESPN, and Totino's while also conducting music and informational research for his own radio show. He currently resides in the New York City area, where he enjoys sampling craft beer and watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals play on the MLB Network. Robin Eller is an accomplished actress, dance educator, and voice artist who has appeared on stage and television and in films and commercials. The narrator of several audiobooks, she speaks fluent Italian and has performed with prominent musicians, including James Brown, with whom she traveled the world as a dancer. Patryce Williams is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York City and is a member of the Actors Equity Association.
