Cadwell Turnbull is the author of The Lesson and No Gods, No Monsters. His short fiction has appeared in The Verge, Lightspeed, Nightmare, Asimov's Science Fiction, and several anthologies, including The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2018 and The Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 2019. The Lesson was the winner of the 2020 Neukom Institute Literary Award in the debut category and No Gods, No Monsters won the 2022 Lambda Literary Award for Best LGBTQ Speculative Fiction. Turnbull lives in Lafayette, IN.
Nikki Giovanni has written many books of poetry for children and adults. She calls herself, "a Black American, a daughter, a mother, a professor of English." She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and grew up in Lincoln Heights, an all-black suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. She studied at Fisk University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University. She published her first book of poetry, Black Feeling Black Talk, in 1968, and since then has become one of America's most widely read poets.
Tananarive Due is a former features writer and columnist for the Miami Herald. She has written two highly acclaimed novels, The Between and My Soul to Keep. Ms. Due makes her home in Longview, Washington.
Jesse J. Holland is an award-winning author and journalist as well as the host of the weekend edition of C-SPAN Washington Journal. A former race and ethnicity writer for The Associated Press, he has been recognized as one of the few reporters to be credentialed to cover all three branches of the American government during his career. In addition to journalism, he wrote the first novel featuring comics' most popular black superhero, the Black Panther. JD Jackson is a theater professor, aspiring stage director, and award-winning audiobook narrator. He is a classically trained actor, and his television and film credits include roles on House, ER, Law & Order, Hack, Sherrybaby, Diary of a City Priest, and Lucky Number Slevin. He is the recipient of more than a dozen Earphones Awards for narration and an Odyssey Honor for G. Neri's Ghetto Cowboy, and he was also named one of AudioFile magazine's Best Voices of the Year for 2012 and 2013. An adjunct professor at Los Angeles Southwest College, he has an MFA in theater from Temple University.
Joy Sunday is a theatre alumna of The Fame School and a graduate of USC's film school. She made her television debut as a top-of-show guest star on MacGyver. When not appearing in television shows, she lends her voice to audiobooks.
