About the Book

It is Written makes a unique contribution to our understanding and appreciation of Holy Scripture. Other books on this subject tend to be academic, making them less accessible for the ordinary reader, and they are usually written from a critical Greek text standpoint, which is accepted without giving a fair treatment of the Received Text position. In addition, there is nothing much to help the reader make sense of the plethora of modern English translations that bewilder Christians today. We believe it is time to return to the high view of Holy Scripture that has quickened and strengthened Christians since Reformation times, which means the same original texts and their translation in the Authorised Version. William Gurnall (1616-79) once said: "Bless God for the translation of the Scriptures. The Word is our sword; by being translated, the sword is drawn out of its scabbard." We do not want a sword blunted by a dubious text or a doubtful translation.

Review :
Every other doctrine depends on the right doctrine of Scripture. It is Written is a faithful and accessible exposition and defence of the full compass of the Biblical doctrine of Scripture. As the Lord Jesus used Scripture to resist the tempter in the wilderness, may we do so as well. It is my prayer that this book will be mightily blessed to that end. Gerald M. BilkesPastor, Grand Rapids Free Reformed Church, Michigan, USA; Vice President and Professor of Homiletics & Biblical Studies, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids A Biblical view of Scripture is of great importance. The Holy Scriptures present themselves as the Word of God, being able to make us wise unto salvation (2 Timothy 3:15). The Lord in His providence has preserved His Word through the centuries, and continues to do so in our time, providing for us His Word in a reliable translation (without the many omissions and changes found in the Critical Text). We warmly recommend this publication that seeks to make the reader aware of this. A.C. RijkenChairman, Gereformeerde Bijbelstichting (GBS), The Netherlands Like an ever-eroding shoreline, the doctrine of Biblical authority has been slowly disappearing due to the influence of Enlightenment thought in the higher institutions of Christian education. The assurance once evoked by the phrase, Thus saith the LORD, has essentially been replaced by the inquiry, What saith the LORD? The critics are quick to assure us that most of the time we know, but they are also honest enough to admit that there is still much work to be done. It was not always like this and the volume It is Written invites you to return to the pre-modern view of Scripture which led our fathers in the faith to confess that the God who inspired Scripture also preserved it through His special care and providence so that men, in every age, might come to a saving knowledge of Christ and be made complete, thoroughly furnished for every good work. The editor and contributors to It is Written have done a good work in calling today's Christian back to an implicit faith in the integrity and authority of God's Holy Word. Christian M. McShaffreyPastor, Five Solas Church of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, USA; Stated Clerk, Presbytery of Wisconsin and Minnesota OPC; Secretary, Reformation Bible Society; Vice-Chairman, The Bahnsen Institute; Owner, Kept Pure Press; Editor in Chief, textandtranslation.org The Bible League Trust is to be lauded for this remarkable undertaking to provide the people of God with a comprehensive, multi-faceted, and trustworthy presentation of the doctrine of Scripture. The need for such a work in an age of Babylonian confusion regarding the trustworthiness, integrity, and preservation of God's inspired and infallible Word should be beyond dispute. May God use this work greatly to strengthen the confidence of His people in the translation of His Word that has borne the stamp of His approval for centuries. Much is at stake here, for the Spirit-inspired Scriptures are "the record that God gave of His Son" (1 John 5:10c). This work underscores the recognition of that profound reality and our obligation to safeguard the integrity of the Father's record of His beloved Son.
