About the Book

Nestled on the rural bluffs above Lake City, Minnesota, Howard's childhood was an emotional void. Each day was a predictable cycle of chores, school, and countless hours on the tractor. His life revolved around responsibilities, with one simple dream: to own the family farm. Karen flourished as a kid in Rockford, Illinois. But during her teenage years, her world shattered when she discovered she was adopted. This revelation reshaped her sense of identity and belonging, and sent her on a quest to find her biological parents, leading to a turbulent relationship with her mother marked by accusations of deceit. Their paths crossed at the University of Minnesota's St. Paul campus, where Howard's reliable, down-to-earth personality met Karen's energetic, city-girl charm. How can two people from such divergent backgrounds bridge the gap between their worlds and resolve their childhood traumas? Finding the One: A 1960s Love Story is a heartfelt biographical memoir about love and marriage, inspired by a true story of resilience, connection, and enduring romance. From double dates in a classic Ford Model A to watching Dr. Zhivago, their journey unfolds against the backdrop of the Civil Rights era, the Kennedy assassination, and the tides of cultural change. More than a historical romance based on actual events, this is a family legacy story-a multigenerational memoir about how two people who overcame personal challenges, embraced each other's flaws, and built a life together. Perfect for readers who enjoy: - Coming-of-age narratives from the 1960s - True love stories set against historical events - Memoirs about finding your soulmate Forget fireworks and sparks. This is the raw, tender account of a bond forged in acceptance, hardened by adversity, and destined to last a lifetime. Step back in time and experience a tender portrait of lasting love-proof that when you find "the one," you hold on forever.

About the Author :
Hi! I'm Lisa! I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, and it was a fun childhood. When I was ten, my family moved to northern Virginia, which was a big change! After grad school, I wanted something different, so I moved to northwestern Mississippi. I started dealing cards and craps at a casino and owned a liquor store in Hernando for 13 years. Later, I returned to Minnesota and became a firefighter for Columbia Heights Fire. In 2022, I decided to switch things up again and moved to sunny Lisbon, Portugal! Now I'm living the dream as an English teacher and a writer. Writing has always ignited something in me. An idea sparks a rush, and the words begin to flow onto the page. Sometimes I will plunge so deep into a world that I don't need to eat or sleep! Many of my short stories have been created this way, and there is a desire to shape them into novels someday. But what I truly love about writing is crafting narratives that plunk the reader right into the scene. Can you sense the ambiance and feel the vibe? Those vivid details and raw emotions help readers truly understand the story.Let's connect! You can find me on my website at LisaBoatman.com, on Instagram at Official_Lisa_Boatman, or on Facebook.
