About the Author :
J. Allen Hynek (1910-1986) served as official astronomical consultant to the US Air Force's Project Blue Book. He was an astronomer and professor of astronomy at Ohio State University and later became chairman of the astronomy department at Northwestern University in Chicago. Hynek started the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) in 1973 and was largely responsible for the founding of MUFON (originally called the Midwest UFO Network). His books include The Hynek UFO Report and The Edge of Reality. Jacques Vallee began his professional life as an astronomer at the Paris Observatory in 1961. While on the staff of the French Space Committee, he witnessed the destruction of the tracking tapes of unknown objects orbiting the earth, initiating a lifelong interest in the UFO phenomenon. Vallee arrived in the US in 1962 and worked in astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin before receiving a PhD in computer science from Northwestern University in 1967. There he became a close associate of J. Allen Hynek, then scientific consultant for the US Air Force on Project Blue Book-the result was The Invisible College. His books include Dimensions, Confrontations, and Revelations, and the Forbidden Science series of journals. Dr. Vallee is presently a venture capitalist living in San Francisco.
