About the Book

A five-step process for implementing a People First philosophy in your organization, where caring, connected leaders create loyalty, ownership, value, and excellence. In the hospitality space, Three and Jackie Carpenter know full well the importance of leading teams who are loyal, engaged, and happy. Working in an industry where customer expectations are at an extreme, Three and Jackie have applied a mindset of treating employees like customers. They've developed a five-step roadmap to creating positive employee experiences and company cultures where connection is the crux of the team's success. People First will teach you how to support, coach, and develop employees at every phase of the employee lifecycle--unleashing people's potential, sparking passion, and igniting purpose in a way that brings about amazing results for your organization.

About the Author :
With more than twenty-five years of experience as a general manager of some of the most exclusive country clubs in America, Three Carpenter is on a mission to help organizations develop work cultures that enrich employees. His dedication to spreading the idea of People First has already revolutionized the club industry by creating team-oriented and highly collaborative workplace environments. By emphasizing mentoring and coaching and placing great value on the contribution of every staff member, regardless of rank or position, Three has helped some of the most historic and respected country clubs in the United States to grow and to stay profitable. Three is frequently invited to be on the board advisory committees at leading hospitality programs like Iowa State University and Kansas State University, where he speaks exclusively on how to train millennials to enter the hospitality field. As a respected thought-leader, he is an in-demand speaker, lecturing on leadership, culture, mentorship, accountability, and team-building throughout the country. He is also actively involved in planning and executing leadership and educational conferences. In the past year, he has helped set up conferences for Professional Club Marketing Association, Tommy Spaulding's National Leadership Academy, and Ken Blanchard's Lead Like Jesus Retreat. Three is currently the GM/COO of Crow Valley Golf Club in Davenport, Iowa. Still an avid Hawkeye fan, he has season passes for the upcoming basketball season. He lives with his wife and their young daughter in Bettendorf, Iowa. Jackie Carpenter has nearly twenty years of experience recruiting and hiring for country clubs. Along with Three, she has been instrumental in developing a hiring and training method using the People First mantra, in order to create a positive work culture that's nurturing and develops future leaders. It's always been her passion as a manager to coach and train employees to take ownership of their jobs and learn leadership skills. She put her passion into action by being the Director of Extraordinary for the Coaching Department for six years, where she mentored and trained leaders of all levels across the service industry. Jackie regularly speaks on the subject of hiring, onboarding, and culture development at several universities, regional educational seminars, and various industry conferences, like Professional Club Marketing Association and the Club Managers Association of America. She is known in the industry for being one of the youngest mangers to earn the prestigious Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation. Born and raised a farm girl from Iowa, she has an undergraduate degree in hospitality from Iowa State University and a master's degree in hospitality management from the University of North Texas. Jackie is currently the editor of The Private Club Advisor, one of the major publications for the private club industry, which is distributed monthly to managers, board members, COOs, and owners of clubs all over the world. TOMMY SPAULDING founded the Leader's Challenge (the largest high school civic and leadership program in Colorado) and was the CEO of Up With People, one of the largest leadership nonprofit organizations in the world. It started when he did Muppet impressions at a talent show. He was eight. He killed it. BJ Harrison later became a scenic artist and sculptor for TV and film, where for twenty years, he listened to audiobooks every day. In 2007, when his Classic Tales Podcast hit the scene, listeners were enthusiastic and voracious. The show peaked as the #3 podcast in iTunes (all categories). Pretty soon, Audible came calling to talk about a new program called ACX. Now, over 750 audiobooks later, he continues to impress critics and listeners alike. AudioFile says he narrates with "gusto" and "enthusiasm." Time opts for "soothing." One thing is clear-BJ tempers his formidable narrator toolbox for the task at hand. It's always thrilling to discover where he'll take us next.
