About the Book
Senator Christopher J. Dodd (Connecticut) presents letters his father wrote home while serving as a prosecutor at Nuremberg. Senator Thomas Dodd began his career of public service as prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials. Chris Dodd recently discovered his mother's collection of letters his father wrote during the trials. Through his father, Chris Dodd learned not only the scope of Nazi Holocaust but also the importance of the rule of law. Our allies would have preferred summary executions of the Nazi leadership, but Chris Dodd said his father gave "to these defendants that which they did not give to their victims, and the world is a better place for their example."
About the Author :
Connecticut's Christopher J. Dodd is a senior Democratic leader in the U.S. Senate. A respected legislator who works in a bipartisan fashion to better peoples' lives, he is best known for his work to make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous. Senator Dodd is currently chairman of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. He also serves as chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps, and Narcotics, as well as senior member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and the chairman of its Education and Early Childhood Development Subcommittee. He also is a member of the Rules and Administration Committee. He lives in East Haddam, Connecticut, with his wife and two daughters. Lary Bloom is an author, columnist, editor, teacher, playwright and lyricist. His eight books include The Writer Within, Letters From Nuremberg (with Christopher J. Dodd), The Test of Our Times (with Tom Ridge), and Lary Bloom's Connecticut Notebook. He is at work on a biography, Sol LeWitt: A Life of Ideas.
His columns have appeared in the New York Times, Connecticut magazine, the Hartford Courant and other publications. He and Suzanne Levine founded Writing at the Mark Twain House and, with novelist Wally Lamb, Praiano Writers, a program on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. While he has been seen performing over one hundred of them in theater and film, Michael is primarily heard, having recorded well over five hundred full-length books. During his career as a one-man repertory company, he has recorded many series with running characters-including the complete Travis McGee adventures by John D. MacDonald and the complete Nero Wolfe mysteries by Rex Stout-as well as series by such masters as Mark Twain, John Cheever, and John Updike. His numerous awards and accolades include an Audie Award for Tears in the Darkness by Michael Norman and Elizabeth M. Norman and several AudioFile Earphones Awards, including for At All Costs by Sam Moses and In Nixon's Web by L. Patrick Gray III. Named a Top Ten Golden Voice by SmartMoney magazine, he holds an M.F.A. in theater from the University of Southern California.
