About the Book

The Navy SEAL teams' elite K9 warriors do it all--from detecting explosives to eliminating the bad guys. These powerful dogs are also some of the smartest and most highly skilled working animals on the planet. Mike Ritland's job is to train them. This is the tale of how Ritland discovered his passion and grew up to train these elite dogs. After becoming a SEAL, he was on combat deployment in Iraq when he saw a military working dog in action, and he instantly knew he'd found his true calling. Ritland eventually started his own company to train and supply working and protection dogs for the U.S. government, the Department of Defense, and other clients. He also started the Warrior Dog Foundation to help retired Special Operations dogs live long and happy lives after their service.

About the Author :
Mike Ritland is the New York Times bestselling author of Trident K9 Warriors: My Tale from the Training Ground to the Battlefield with Elite Navy SEAL Canines. He joined the Navy at age seventeen in 1996, after being inspired by his grandfathers, both of whom served in World War II. He graduated with BUD/S class 215 and became a member of SEAL Team 3. After years as a member of SEAL Team 3, he became a BUD/S instructor and then started his own company to train dogs for the SEAL teams. Today he continues to supply working and protection dogs to a host of clients, including the U.S. government and the Department of Defense. He also started the Warrior Dog Foundation to help retired Special Operations dogs live long and happy lives after their service. Michael Kramer is an AudioFile Earphones Award winner, a finalist for the prestigious Audie Award for Best Narration, and recipient of a Publishers Weekly Listen-Up Award. He is also an actor and director in the Washington, DC, area, where he is active in the area's theater scene and has appeared in productions at the Shakespeare Theatre, the Kennedy Center, and Theater J.

Review :
Fascinating. . . . About time these heroes got the attention they deserved for a young audience.-- "Kirkus" Navy SEAL Dogs gives a unique insider account of the training and deployment of these special animals and their handlers. Ritland does a superb job of detailing these dogs in combat, as well as the bond between operator and K-9. Readers are sure to be surprised by the different levels of service and skill that go into making an elite team of two legged and four legged SEALs." -- "Howard Wasdin, former Navy SEAL and New York Times bestselling author of I Am A SEAL Team Six Warrior" "Extensive quotations from participants in these military operations provide behind-the-scenes perspective and underscore the dogs' personalities and skills. Chapters detailing the training of military dogs and their handlers will be of greatest interest to dog lovers." -- "Publishers Weekly" "Mike Ritland has gone on to train working K-9's for some of the most elite units in the US Special Operations community. These dogs are integrated into Special Operations at all levels of mission planning...If you want to learn about these amazing animals, the sacrifices they've made, and their effectiveness in combat, then read Navy SEAL Dogs. -- "Brandon Webb, former Navy SEAL, New York Times bestselling author of The Red Circle" "Ritland provides an in-depth look into how he trains military working dogs (MWD's) for combat...this young adult version of Ritland's Trident K9 Warriors has short chapters and appealing content, making it an ideal selection for reluctant readers. This would be a great addition to either school or public libraries, especially those with populations of teens interested in dogs or military life." -- "VOYA" "Special force SEALs are elite enough, but SEAL dogs are a breed apart. Fascinating...About time these heroes got the attention they deserved for a young audience." -- "Kirkus Reviews"
