I wrote EPHPHATHA because I spent too much of my life carrying things I thought I had to keep carrying-old pain, fear, the need to explain myself, the need to be understood, and the instinct to stay guarded so I would never be hurt again. Eventually I began to see that freedom is not pretending the past never happened. It is learning how to remember without remaining there.
This book follows that journey from stirred waters toward a living river. Through the wisdom of the Hebrew Scriptures, Exodus, Isaiah, the Psalms, Song of Songs, the image of a racehorse finally released into an open field, and the simple power of an open hand, I began to understand salvation differently. Yeshu'ah is deliverance. Ezer is help. Merchav is spaciousness. Shalom is wholeness. Sometimes salvation is a sea opening. Sometimes it is bread for today, someone sitting beside you, a door finally opening, a heart learning to rest, or enough help to take the next step.
EPHPHATHA is not about becoming perfect. It is about becoming fully human again. It is about leaving Egypt without becoming Pharaoh, loving without possessing, setting boundaries without becoming hard, making room for people who have been pushed to the edges, and discovering that we do not have to win every argument in order to walk in truth.
For anyone who has ever felt trapped, misunderstood, exhausted from proving themselves, afraid to love, or uncertain how to begin again, this book offers no easy formula. It offers something simpler: room to breathe, permission to heal at a human pace, and hope that the water can settle.
The gate can open. The heart can soften. The river can move again.
