Este libro no es un manual de autoayuda. La corteza prefrontal, ese incansable contable de la vida diaria, se retira. Y en ese momento de disolución del ego, algo más antiguo y más capaz toma el control.

Los capítulos que siguen están organizados como un programa de estudio en tres movimientos. El primero, La arquitectura del asombro, te enseña a romper los hábitos perceptivos mundanos que te encierran en una versión estrecha y ansiosa de la realidad. El segundo, Sincronicidades primigenias, te enseña a profundizar la conexión entre tu conciencia y las fuerzas más grandes (naturales, sociales, estéticas) de las que tu vida civilizada te ha aislado. El tercero, La manifestación sublime, muestra cómo convertir estos estados en poder creativo y estratégico.

Cada capítulo examina su tema a través de la lente de la historia, porque la historia es el único laboratorio lo bastante grande para poner a prueba ideas sobre la naturaleza humana a escalas de tiempo significativas. El estoico romano, el pintor renacentista, el navegante de altamar, el constructor de catedrales: estos no son antecedentes pintorescos para admirar y dejar en el pasado. Son modelos, y sus métodos son replicables.
