Can the past ever truly be left behind?
Widowed father Stetson Hart and actress Susanna Alexander find themselves facing that question. They met when their cars crashed in the Mojave Desert and their attraction had been instant. One disappointing date later, however, Stetson learned the hard truth. Susanna saw motherhood as an impediment to achieving her dreams-a belief created by the mother who gave up a singing career to have a family and later regretted it.
That seemed to be the end of any future between them. Fate, however, had other plans. They both end up on Cannibal Island, a deserted, reputedly haunted, bit of land in the Caribbean Sea. There to film a movie about the island's mysterious past, Stetson and Susanna find their romance rekindled. And this time, Stetson is determined to convince Susanna she doesn't have to choose between him and the red carpet.
Accidents begin piling up soon after they arrive, and each appears linked to Edna Dancy, a previous inhabitant who is rumored to have worshipped the devil. Edna killed twenty-two people while living there, and many of the cast and crew believe her spirit still haunts the place.
Not a man given to superstition, Stetson is sure there's a rational explanation for everything that's happened. And he intends to get to the bottom of it. But the more he learns about Cannibal Island and Edna Dancy, the more he fears the past is about to reassert itself.
Unless Stetson and Susanna can discover the truth, their future could be doomed. Because Cannibal Island seems determined to claim more victims.
