La soixantaine venue Mars est un apostat, un homme sans prise. Il regarde Bellone et ne sait plus pourquoi c'est elle; pourquoi lui. De lointaines sir�nes, en direction de l'Op�ra. Des gens ou des b�tes chass�s sous la fen�tre. C'est un territoire d'�tranget�s. Un t�moin � qui tout �chappe d�sormais. Une apr�s-midi en quittant le lyc�e, il voit une jeune femme adoss�e � l'aile d'une automobile voisine de la sienne. Elle porte un pantalon retrouss� de plusieurs tours � la chute et un imperm�able trop grand. Un casque sur les oreilles, se comportant comme si elle ne l'avait pas remarqu�. Au moment o� il sort de l'�pi elle lui fait un signe de la main. Cela ressemble � un au revoir. "St�r�otypie" est un appel du pied aux Indiens autant qu'une r�f�rence aux mots d'Aragon: "La st�r�otypie des gestes (...) de l'Europe a accompli le cycle du d�go�t." C'est chronologiquement le premier volume de la trilogie, donc le dernier. Maintenant ou presque. Le d�but de la s�nilit�. La civilisation demeure et ce n'est pourtant d�j� plus qu'un �cho. Un fatras de souvenirs et d'objets sans fonction. La question qui se pose, au terme d'une date de p�remption, est de savoir si l'on est pr�t � devenir autre chose. La trilogie des osselets est tout enti�re en orbite autour de cette question. Il n'y a pas d'anticipation. Il y a la cr�ation des formes et l'observation de l'�volution des formes dans le temps. "St�r�otypie," "Iris psychopompe," "Tonus terrien" et l'�pilogue satellitaire "Chronologie": Des protagonistes, des lieux, des trajectoires et des objets et des souvenirs se superposent. Tant�t se correspondent comme dans un pr�sent �ternel et tant�t tremblent et divergent. Des entr�es du lexique ont disparu. Les phrases se sont �court�es. Les pr�occupations et les pratiques ont d�riv�. Les mutations de la mati�re peuvent s'observer � toute �chelle. Nous sommes dedans. Dans "St�r�otypie," l'int�r�t de Vesta pour la pal�oanthropologie souligne la d�marche litt�raire."

Les gens qui s'y arr�tent, chez Stock comme chez Calmann-L�vy, meurent ou perdent leur emploi peu apr�s. En cons�quence de son influence n�faste sur le monde de l'�dition, il s'en �loigne.
