This book reveals the origin of imprecise information and establishes the mathematical models of flexible words and related mathematical and logical theories. It presents a set of models and algorithms of reasoning and computation, thus building a platform for related applications and laying a foundation for further research.
Applying the theories and technologies in the book builds flexible AI systems to solve corresponding clustering, classification, judging, recognition, control, prediction, regression, etc., problems, and to enhance the Agent’s and Robot’s abilities to perceive environment and control behavior. Combine large language models (LLMs) with flexible linguistic information technologies in the book to enhance and extend the capability of natural language processing, and to realize understanding and generation of flexible words.
This book differentiates imprecision from the uncertainty of information and explicitly treats imprecise-information processing as an independent subject. Imprecise-information processing is an indispensable research topic and branch field of artificial intelligence. About the Author :
Professor Shiyou Lian, is a senior AI scholar and an Artificial Intelligence (AI) bestselling author. He was once an Excellent Teacher, Postgraduate Supervisor, Discipline Leader, and Teaching Consulting Expert, at Xi’an Shiyou University (China). He mainly engages in teaching and research of computer science and artificial intelligence. He is an early member of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence and a member of a professional committee within the association, and he was once also a member of Shaanxi Computer Education Society and a member of AI professional committee within Shaanxi Computer Society. In addition, he is also a reviewer for several journals and periodicals.
Professor Lian has been working hard in the field of information and intelligence for decades and has achieved considerable performances through long-term learning and training, but he still keeps up with the times and strives for excellence, so his achievements, writings, and awards are numerous.
On teaching: He taught over 20 courses to university students and graduate students; presided and completed the construction of high-quality courses of the university; won 2 second prizes of teaching achievement of provincial level alone; and wrote 12 textbooks, which include one national unified textbook as the deputy editor in chief and ten in independently authored, among them, his artificial intelligence series textbooks are widely popular, which have been published consecutively for 28 years, used for teaching by hundreds of colleges and universities, and referenced or quoted by tens of similar textbooks and related books as well as over a thousand papers. Among these AI textbooks, one is rated as a “National Excellent Bestseller” in the field of science and technology by the China Book Association, one was national level planning textbook of the 11th Five Year Plan; one won the Excellent Textbook Construction Award of the National College Artificial Intelligence Innovation Alliance, and one is the Bestseller of Tsinghua University Press.
On scientific research: He participated in or presided over 10 scientific projects including the projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China and National 863 Hi-tech, some of them won awards. He developed multiple software alone, of which one of AI software won a second prize of Excellent Scientific Research Achievement of Higher Education Institutions in Shaanxi Province; He is the sole or first author of over 30 scientific papers. He is the sole author of 5 academic monographs, including one listed in the “Intelligent Science and Technology Works Series” of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence and Science Press, and two English monographs published by Springer Nature.
Academically, until now, the main work and achievements of Professor Lian are: (1) Expounding on the essence and types of intelligence, and outlining of the overall architecture and knowledge system of the artificial intelligence discipline; (2) Revealing the origin of flexible linguistic information, and establishing a new theoretical and technological system for imprecise-information processing; (3) Proposing a set of interpolation models and algorithms, which can effectively solve the high-dimensional interpolation problems, and further, it would be expected to create a new paradigm for machine learning.
