Patnaik earned his Ph.D. in 1978 in the area of real-time systems and his D.Sc. in 1989 focusing on computer systems and architectures, both from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore. From March 2008 to August 2011, he served as Vice-Chancellor of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, a Deemed University in Pune. Currently, he is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering at IISc and an INSA Senior Scientist and Adjunct Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bangalore. Over his 50 years of service, his teaching, research, and development interests have encompassed parallel and distributed computing, computer architecture, CAD of VLSI systems, high-performance computing, mobile computing, theoretical computer science, real-time systems, soft computing, and computational neuroscience, including machine cognition. He has published 1,286 papers in refereed international journals and conference proceedings. H.C. Nagaraj obtained his B.E. degree in electronics and communication engineering with first-class distinction from the University of Mysore in 1981. He received his M.E. in communication systems from P.S.G. College of Technology, Bharathiar University, in 1984, securing first rank. He completed his doctoral degree in biomedical signal processing and instrumentation at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in 2000. Since September 2003, he has been serving as the Principal of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology in Bangalore. With approximately 38 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration, Dr. Nagaraj has published numerous papers in national and international journals and conferences and has delivered invited talks in fields such as biomedical signal processing, image processing, and mobile communication. He has also guided several students in their Ph.D. programs. Venugopal K.R., a former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, has dedicated over five decades to serving both Bangalore University and University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE). He holds 11 degrees, including two Ph.Ds--one in Economics from Bangalore University and another in Computer Science Engineering from IIT Madras. He earned his M.E. degree in Computer Science Engineering from IISc, Bangalore, and has degrees in Electronics and Communication, Law, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Finance, Industrial Relations, Mass Communication, and Economics.
