About the Book

This book is a comprehensive guide to the pathology, underlying mechanisms, and treatment options for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The book starts with an introduction to the basic anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system, followed by an overview of the types, classifications, and basic concepts of neurodegenerative disorders. The epidemiology, etiology, risk factors, and future predictions of AD have been covered in detail. The book then delves into the pathophysiology and underlying mechanisms of plaque formation and explores the correlation of AD with other psychological and non-psychological conditions. The chapters also explore the diagnosis of AD, including types of plaques and their detection, imaging techniques, and other tests. The book also covers traditional therapies for AD and explores the potential application of nanotechnology in AD treatment. The book also covers animal models and ethics in the testing of drugs for AD, regulatory guidelines, and the approval process for drugs and formulations for AD. Prevention and reduction of AD risk are explored, including lifestyle changes, dietary changes, supplements, natural medicines (phytoconstituents), and probiotics as the future of AD. The book concludes with a discussion of future barriers and possible solutions with recent advances in the field of AD. This book is an essential guide for students, researchers, and healthcare professionals interested in Alzheimer's disease research.

About the Author :

Dr. Ghulam Md Ashraf is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, School of Science, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, P. R. China. He earned his PhD degree from Aligarh Muslim University and has 14 years of combined teaching, research, and innovation experience in biological, health, and medical sciences. His primary field of research is neuropharmacology, currently focusing on investigating the molecular and behavioral mechanisms of novel therapeutic combinations in multiple sclerosis. His lab also investigates the molecular and behavioral mechanism of effects of anti-diabetic drugs in psychotic and dementia conditions. He has published 424 research manuscripts (citations: 14660, H-index: 62, i10 index: 243) and been involved in 25 research grants. For his scientific contributions, Dr. Ashraf has been recognized as Top Peer Reviewer in 'Biology and Biochemistry' and 'Cross Field' by Web of Science. In 2020, he was approved as a subject of biographical record in Marquis Who's Who in the World. He has also been recognized as an Expertscape World Expert in Alzheimer's disease and Neurodegenerative Disorders since 2020. Most significantly, he has been listed in the Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide since 2021.

Dr. Ali T. Zari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, at King Abdulaziz University (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia). He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology from King Abdulaziz University in 2007. Dr. Zari completed his Master of Science in Biology at Laurentian University, Canada, in 2014, and later earned his Ph.D. in Biomolecular Sciences from the same institution in 2019.Dr. Zari's research focuses on examining the effects of medicinal plants and their bioactive components on various cancer cells and other diseases. Using biomolecular techniques both in vitro and in vivo, he investigates their potential as pharmaceutical sources, aiming to develop novel therapeutic approaches. Additionally, Dr. Zari studies gene regulation in different tumors, including prostate, lung, breast, and skin cancers, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic strategies that may reduce or halt tumor growth by targeting altered gene expression patterns. Dr. Zari is also exploring the potential benefits and risks of using nanomaterials for therapeutic purposes. Moreover, he is looking for in silico prediction of cancer inhibitors and protein modeling for antitumor activity.

Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman is a member of the Novel Global Community Education Foundation in Australia and a registered Pharmacist in Bangladesh. He completed his Ph.D. in Medical Science from Yonsei University, South Korea. He served as an expert pharmacist for different reputed pharmaceutical companies. His main research field is Neuroscience, especially Alzheimer's disease. His research focuses on the Alzheimer's disease biomarker identification to the targeted biomarker with clinical research. Thus far, the research findings are very enlightening, especially in terms of dementia diagnosis and treatment. He is also a member of the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease (JAD). Most recently, he has been listed in the Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide.

Dr. Chenmala Karthika is a postdoctoral fellow, at the National Institute of Health, USA. She completed her PhD from JSS College of Pharmacy Ooty. She worked as an ICMR-senior research fellow in her PhD tenure and had published around 35 national and International paper.
