About the Book

In this book, Jin Kai provides an alternative perspective on the power interactions between a rising China and a "relatively" declining U.S. in the changing world situation. Grounded in previous scholarship, Jin argues that China's rise is historically, culturally, and structurally different; a peaceful power transition requires engagement by the U.S. in international institutions. Grounded in case studies and theory, this study will be of relevance to any reader interested in the evolving great power relationship between China and the U.S.

Table of Contents:
1. Introduction.- 2. Theoretical Review through Power Transition Theory.- 3. How the Rise of China Will Be Different.- 4. Engaging China in International Institutions.- 5. Analytical Review of China's Rise in the Contemporary World System.- 6. Further Discussion, Summary of Main Arguments, and Future Scenarios.

About the Author :
Jin Kai is Lecturer at the Graduate School of International Studies at Yonsei University, South Korea and a columnist for The Diplomat. He previously served with the People’s Liberation Army of China as a Professional Officer and was an International Communications and Public Relations Officer for the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding.

Review :
“Rising China in a Changing World offers a valuable overview of US–China relations in the contemporary era and identifies the roots of their conflictual relationship in a unique way. … Jin Kai’s book is a must-read for those interested in the current debates regarding a rising China, the Thucydides trap and the role of United States and China in this globalised world.” (Behzad Abdollahpour, China Report, Vol. 55 (1), 2019)
