About the Book

Epithalamion, Nick Carbó's latest collection of poems, enthralls readers with poems reflecting Carbó's origins, identity, and memories as a Filipino American growing up in his adopted country. Carbó's poetic genius blends mysticism, tenderness, and quiet passion in a new collection that embraces grief, nostalgia, connection and disconnection that reveal his influences and originality. With poignant imagery and lyricism, he explores these themes and converses with the reader's senses. Nick Carbó's Epithalamion reaches far and wide, connecting its stories, sentiments, and ideas with people--wherever they may be.

He has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts. He has served as Poet-in-Residence in universities like Columbia College, Chicago, the University of Miami, and the New College of Florida.

Review :
"If this were Nick Carbó's first book, we might be praising him as the new Lorca. But anyone who knows his work knows he's got the best of Lorca and much more in him. The poems in Epithalamion reflect his influences and, more importantly, his complete originality. They are a blend of mysticism and tenderness, of passion and quiet--a boundless heart and talent." --Terrence Hayes, author of American Sonnets for my Past and Future Assasin "Carbó always seems to have his radar up for references to Asians in US pop culture." --Lynn Miller, National Public Radio "A new outstanding book by Nick Carbó in which the world of the Philippines its reinvented mythology, poignant and disruptive experiences stemming from its colonial past, seem to be engaged in a remedial dialogue with Spain, France, Italy, and the United States. 'Language' is the key word of the volume, and its power is explored by the author in its connection with vitality, exchange, sensuousness, rebirth. The book will enthrall the readers' minds and will germinate in every fiber of their bodies." --Elisabetta Marino, Professora, Università degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata" "Throughout his poetic life, Nick Carbó has been skewering history and culture as they deserve. But that his espada ropera occasionally melts to tender lyricism reveals the huge heart that is the saving grace of great poets. Despite the 'burden of bodies'--that includes one of the 20th century's great poems, 'The Boy in Blue Shorts'--this poet still discovers 'lemons dreaming their yellow dreams' and 'flowers dancing flamenco in red dresses.' His poems enlarge their readers' lives. We must respond with nothing less than love." --Eileen R. Tabios, poet and author of the novel Dovelion
