Los dos indios alegres, publicada en 1973, es la primera novela de Wilcock, y en ella el autor apunta su mirada ironica e irreverente de exiliado sobre los usos y costumbres del pais donde eligio vivir. Una comicidad desenfrenada recorre las paginas de este libro que podria definirse como una novela-dentro-de-una-revista-dentreo-de-una-novela, o mas sencillamente como una "novela-revista": primero porque esta articulada en los treinta numeros de la revista hipica "El picadero," redactada por el protagnista de la novela, que cambia continuamente de nombre y de domicilio, sin dejar de mantener correspondencia con el director de la misma; y segundo porque cada numero de esta revista es como una hilarante sucesion de sketches de teatro de variedades con un libreto escrito por un literato habilisimo, por un maestro de la satira. Con una Roma tumultosa como telon de fondo, desfilan por Los dos indios alegres personajes involuntariamente absurdos que ilustran, en clave humoristica, los esplendores y las miserias de la especia humana: estafadores, curas, profesores, entre otros, y una multitud de indios (algunos con nombres tan irrisorios como Aceite de Oliva, Cano de Escape o Rehusa Irse) liderados por Ciervo Rojo y Caballo Alto, cuyas peripecias dan titulo al libro. Principal artifice de este repertorio delirante y minucioso es Vicenzo Follo, alias Farolito de Cola "para las colaboraciones de alto nivel," grafomano genial, insigne poligrafo, heredero de H. Bstos Domecq y pariente lejano de Bouvard y Pecuchet, que plagia y reescribe textos ajenos en todos los generos literarios, aun los extinguidos -de la poesia social al tratado etnologico, pasando por la cronica policiaca y la ocasionalvineta pornografica. Pero De Cola padece una enfermedad mortal que avanza mientras escribe sus novelas por entregas. Marilyn Monroe y Golda Meir, dos fieles travestis, cuidan de el y lo trasladan de un punto a otro de la ciudad, hacia refugios cada vez mas sospechosos, mas inusuales..
