About the Book

English abstract The commemorative publication «Bleibt alles anders? Sozialarchäologische Perspektiven» honours and celebrates the scholarly work of Prof. Dr. Brigitte Röder in prehistoric and early historical archaeology (University of Basel) on the occasion of her 65th birthday. She is an internationally renowned expert in social, gender and childhood history and, through her contributions, has repeatedly and critically questioned our understanding of prehistoric society. Through her work, she has not only initiated but also helped shape constructive debates in research and in public discourse. At the interface between contemporary values and knowledge about the past, she has given research in prehistoric and early historical archaeology at Basel – as well as archaeology in Switzerland and beyond – a broad intellectual and social-scientific orientation. In addition to her extensive list of publications, this volume contains 23 contributions by researchers from Switzerland and abroad, written in German, English and French, which honour Brigitte Röder’s fields of research. The texts present current research findings on innovative interdisciplinary approaches, social action, the worlds of children and young people, and processes of transformation. They illustrate how Brigitte Röder has had a decisive influence on her research environment and how she has inspired new perspectives.

"Caroline Heitz has studied prehistoric archaeology, social anthropology and the modern history of Eastern Europe at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Since 2014, she has been a research and teaching assistant at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences at the University of Bern. Within the scope of her PhD-project - and the SNFS-research-project 'Mobilities, Entanglements and Transformations in Neolithic Societies of the Swiss Plateau (3900 - 3500 BC)' - she is currently working on the phenomena of mobility, entanglement, appropriation and transformation in Neolithic pottery from the UNESCO-World Heritage wetland sites of Lake Constance and Lake Zurich. Having a special interest in inter- and transdisciplinarity, she combines theoretical approaches from social anthropology with methods of archaeology and archaeometry in her research. She has co-authored a book on oral history entitled 'Annäherung an die soziale Wirklichkeit der SS-Ärzte', published papers on Neolithic wetland sites and is, with Albert Hafner, co-editor of the e-series 'Bern Working Papers on Prehistoric Archaeology'. " Philipp W. Stockhammer is professor for prehistoric archaeology with a focus on the Eastern Mediterranean at Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich and co-director of Max Planck-Harvard Research Center for the Archaeoscience of the Ancient Mediterranean, Jena. From 2015-2018, he acted as Speaker of the Collaborative Research Project "BEFIM". He published monographs on Urnfield swords, pottery of the post-palace period in the lower city of Tiryns, the appropriation of foreign pottery in the Eastern Mediterranean Late Bronze Age, and countless papers.
