Somervell (David Churchill Somervell, 1885-1965) was a distinguished British historian and educator. He spent much of his career as a history teacher at Tonbridge School, where he was known for his deep understanding of history and his ability to communicate complex ideas in an engaging way. Somervell is best known for his abridged editions of Arnold J. Toynbee's A Study of History, which helped make the extensive work more accessible to the public.
