About the Author :
Robert Hooke FRS (18 July 1635 - 3 March 1703) was an English polymath who worked as a scientist, natural philosopher, and architect. He is credited with being one of the first two scientists to discover microorganisms in 1665 using a compound microscope he built himself, the other being Antonie van Leeuwenhoek in 1674. As a young adult, he was a poor scientific inquirer who acquired fortune and esteem by undertaking more than half of the architectural surveys following London's great fire of 1666. Hooke additionally served as a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, serving as its curator of experimentation since 1662. Hooke additionally served as a Geometry Professor at Gresham University. Hooke built the first Gregorian telescope in 1673 and then examined the rotations of Mars and Jupiter. Hooke's 1665 work Micrographia, in which he created the term "cell," sparked interest in microscopic research.
