Islam came on the scene, with a message, philosophy and code of conduct, perfect by all means, with its advent, the new faith revolutionised the contemporary world in a very short span of time. It also brought along with its beliefs and practices, a new culture, which gradually build a new civilization, now known as Islamic Civilization. Islam directs all its followers to learn, gain knowledge and master the arts and sciences c: the contemporary world. Islam, as a living faith stands for spreading light and eliminating darkness from the world. They contributed a lot to the growth of all branches of knowledge and thus enriched the new civilization. R.D. Gupta, M.Sc. and Ph. D. (Agriculture), is a well-known soil scientist and environmentalist, having specialisation in soil microbiology and pedology, and in wildlife of Pir Panjal Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir. He did his postgraduate diploma in ecology and environment from Indian Institute of Ecology and Environment, New Delhi. Starting his professional career as Assistant Extension Specialist (Soil Science) in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in 1968, Prof. Gupta served as Associate Professor, Deputy Director, Extension Education (Training) in Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, before he was elevated as Chief Scientist, KVK and Head SKUAST, Regional Agricultural Research Station, RS. Pura, Jammu. Later, he served as Founding Associate Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST, Jammu; and Head, Divisions of Agricultural Chemistry, and Soil Science, and Agro-forestry. He has to his credit over 100 research papers and book, entitled, Problems and Management of Soil and Forest Resources of Northwest Himalayas.
