About the Book

What do you want to be able to do when you are eighty?

That single question changes everything for Bart Van Mol.

It takes him from the comfort zone to the edges of the world - and from the open road deep within himself.

In EIGHTY, Bart invites you along on Cycling Adventure 15: a fifteen-year cycling journey around the world. From the misty Scottish Highlands to Chile's Atacama Desert, from the rugged Norwegian fjords to the heat of Vietnam - every kilometre tells a story. Not just about landscapes, but about life choices.

Along the way, Bart teams up with co-author Dr Thiago Guimaraes Osorio to explore the power of Lifestyle Medicine:

sleep that restores, nutrition that nourishes, movement that builds strength, rest that grounds, connection that uplifts, and purpose that gives direction.

What begins as a sporting challenge grows into an inspiring guide to living a vital, meaningful life.

You will read real stories of transformation - how small, conscious steps such as sleeping better, eating healthier, moving more, and reflecting on what truly matters can lead to greater energy, freedom and fulfilment.

EIGHTY is an invitation.

Not to cycle around the world, but to start today on the journey towards your best self.

Who is this book for?

✔ Anyone who wants to live healthier and more consciously

✔ Cyclists, adventurers and lovers of life

✔ Readers who enjoy true stories with depth and reflection

✔ Anyone who understands that later starts now

Start here. Start now. Start small.

Dreaming of getting on your bike yourself? Throughout the book, you will discover practical tips and insights for anyone who longs to set off on their own adventure.

About the Author :
I've learned that the future we get is shaped by the choices we make long before we arrive there. That belief has guided a diverse path: studying mathematics, teaching, research in theoretical physics, becoming a professional pilot at 35, and building a career in IT that led to my role as CIO.In 2021 I started Cycling Adventure 15 - a multi-year journey to cycle around the world in stages. What began as a personal challenge evolved into a deeper exploration of resilience, health, and the long-term impact of everyday habits. Those experiences led to TACHTIG - Elke kilometer telt. Later begint nu, created together with Dr. Thiago Guimarães Osorio. The book is rooted in real-world experiences from deserts, mountains and remote regions, combined with practical principles from Lifestyle Medicine that invite readers to think intentionally about the future they are building. The book is available in Dutch (TACHTIG) and in English as EIGHTY - Every kilometre counts. Later starts now.At its core lies one central question: What do you want to still be able to do when you are eighty? My goal is to help people reflect on the life they are building - professionally and personally - and to make choices today that support long-term vitality, performance and meaning. If healthy aging, sustainable performance or meaningful change resonates with you, I'd be glad to connect. I am a Brazilian-trained cardiologist with a subspecialty in electrophysiology, certified in Lifestyle Medicine, and a PhD candidate in medical sciences with over 15 years of experience in the healthcare field. Currently, I help people take charge of their health and well-being through evidence-based lifestyle interventions. I have also conducted research at UZ Brussel, where I investigated the effects of neuromodulation on cardiovascular health and arrhythmias. My skills include medical education, advanced cardiac life support, and healthcare management. My core competencies are providing patient-centered and holistic care, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and applying scientific knowledge to clinical practice.
