"Lorsque vous abandonnerez les oeuvres qui ne pourront vous suivre, alors vous vous reposerez", enseigne le Seigneur dans le «Dialogue du Sauveur» (141,9-12). Voilà qui résume bien la doctrine centrale de ce «dialogue de révélation» entre Jésus, le révélateur descendu du Plérôme, et ses disciples Marie, Matthieu et Jude. Document manifestement chrétien, mais demeuré inconnu jusqu'à sa découverte en Haute Égypte en 1945, le «Dialogue du Sauveur» présente l'ultime enseignement que Jésus adressa à ses disciples avant de quitter ce monde. Si l'élu se connaît lui-même et trouve à l'intérieur de lui-même sa racine de lumière en se débarrassant de la colère, de l'envie et des autres passions suscitées par les ténèbres, il peut déjà 'voir' le lieu du repos. Mais il n'atteindra à la grande vision éternelle du Dieu vivant qu'après la dissolution, lorsque l'âme abandonnera le corps pour échapper aux archontes, éons et puissances célestes qui veulent la retenir captive en ce monde de pauvreté. Alors seulement celle-ci pourra-t-elle entrer dans la chambre nuptiale pour être éternellement unie à son conjoint céleste. On cherchera en vain dans le «Dialogue du Sauveur» cet anticosmisme radical qui considère le monde matériel créé par un démiurge mauvais ou ignorant comme la source de tous les maux accablant l'humanité. Et ce n'est qu'avec un oeil averti qu'on peut y détecter le mythe de la chute d'une semence pneumatique issue du Plérôme. Le document s'inscrit malgré tout dans le courant gnostique, affichant une doctrine valentinienne épurée qui témoigne d'une volonté de rapprochement avec la 'Grande Église'.
