About the Book

The totality of this Summer NATO School, held at Paris from June )0 to July 1),1978 , was covered by a tape recording. The Proceedings belong to the original papers and to the main aspects of the recorded events. The different Sessions were performed at Ecole natio- nale superieure des Nines de Paris (Fontainebleau) , Palais de la Decouverte, Institut biomedical des Cor- deliers ,Fondation Rothschild, Ecole nationale supe- rieure des Telecommunications, Institut de Stomatologie de l'H~pital de la Salp~triere , Centre d'etude du systeme nerveux du CNRS ( Gif-sur-Yvette) , Institut de recherche d'electro-anesthesie de la Faculte de Chirurgie dentaire de Montrouge , Institut d'etudes linguistiques et phonetiques de l'Universi te de Paris III', Institut Pasteur de Paris , CII-Hone~vell-Bull de Paris and la Sorbonne * A film was produced during most of the Sessions. The Editor perceives it as the obvious complement of the Lessons and Demonstrations * The attempt of this movie it to "donner a voir" what is only given to read in the present book; an audio-visual approach seems to be important notably for the Presentations of Pr Car- r pentier , Pr Limoge , Dr Kalmanson and of Ing Moorer r ( it was notably considered as such mainly by Ing Moorer who did not give a paper since his work is fully published in "Proceedings of the I. E. E. E.
