About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION By Colombian Narrative Prize winner, comes a monumental book about the passing of the human species on Earth.   Simón Hernández, a writer from Bogota with more pretentions than creations, has died. And in his journey through the underworld he meets seven characters of other times and landscapes: a seventeenth century nun from Tunja, a Portuguese undertaker who witnessed Lisbon’s destruction in 1755, a young impostor who collaborated with Dumas, a German soldier fighting against his own violence during the First World War, an astronaut tormented by the experience of going to the Moon, a rabid rocker haunted by fame in the eighties, and a Chinese teacher battling to regain her humanity in a future world dominated by machines.   In this ambitious novel, Silva Romero makes a review of the history of our species and culture through every delirious enterprise his characters undertake. Eight plots that have two things in common: the individual’s defense against subjugation and the idea of death as a kind of vindication if one manages to come back to life.
