About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Reyes Monforte returns with a passionate novel about Adelina Patti, the Spanish woman that was born in a boardinghouse and became the best singer in history. The best paid soprano in history. The most famous woman of the nineteenth century. The voice that silenced the world. New York, 1851. A child prodigy of bel canto called Adelina Patti draws the attention of the select American operatic circuit. Could a girl, born in a boardinghouse on Fuencarral, a street in Madrid, end up having such an indisputable talent? Adelina begins a meteoric career that makes her more and more famous, to the point of becoming Queen Victoria’s favorite soprano and Queen Elizabeth II of Spain’s confident. But she was also vulnerable to the entrapments of love, fame, money, betrayal, and revenge. From Abraham Lincoln, to the Prince of Wales, from Giuseppe Verdi to Zar Alexander II, from Leo Tolstoy to Pérez Galdós, and also Oscar Wilde, Gioachino Rossini, Eugenia de Montijo, Napoleon III, and Émile Zola, many celebrities of her time revered Patti like a goddess, an unforgettable legend, ahead of her time. Aware that she chose her operas better than her husbands, she married three times, lived surrounded by controversy, and cleared her own path to success while defying those strict Victorian values. All to live freely as a woman and an artist, not allowing for anyone to trample on her in a world made by and for men. In her magnificent latest novel, Reyes Monforte built an unforgettable epic storyline, the thrilling epopee of the first great diva in the history of music.
