About the Book

Optical Fiber Communication System is written for the undergraduate students of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering. Written in a lucid language, and organized in 12 chapters, the book discusses light propagation in optical fibers, transmission characteristics of optical fibers, signal degradation, fabrication and characteristics of light emitting diode, fabrication and characteristics of lasers, power launching and coupling, optical detector, analysis and performance of optical receiver, network and application.
Using a mathematical approach with well-illustrated explanations and numerous solved examples, this book reflects the expertise of the author who has an experience of more than 20 years in teaching. A useful appendix at the end of the book gives mathematical pre-requites for readers.

About the Author

DR. R.K. SINGH, PhD (Electronics Engineering), M.Tech. (Electronics and Control Engineering), is professor at the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Kumaon Engineering College (an autonomous college under the Government of Uttrakhand), Dwarahat, and officer on special duty (OSD) at Uttrakhand Technical University, Dehradun. Dr. Singh is recipient of several state- and center-level awards for his contributions to the field of education and research. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Singh is member of several professional societies-Institute of Engineers, Indian Science Congress Association and Indian Society of Technical Education. His areas of interest and research are Solid-State Devices and Materials, Electronics and Communication. An author of six engineering books, Dr. Singh has published several research papers in international journals and conferences and organized national and international conferences.
