His parents, James William and Amanda Elizabeth Carnagey, were impoverished farmers. As a boy, Carnegie was unskilled in athletics but learned that he could still make friends and earn respect because he had a way with words. In 1906, he completed his high schooling in Warrensburg. During high school, he grew interested in the speeches at the various Chautauqua assemblies. He attended State Teacher's College in Warrensburg, graduating in 1908. He was the developer of famous c ours es i n s el f-impro v em ent, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. Inspired by assemblies, Dale Carnegie started teaching public speaking at the YMCA. Within two years, the courses had achieved such popularity that Carnegie founded his own institute named as Dale Carnegie Institute. His seminal self-help books won him a national following and enabled him to expand the institute into countries around the world.
