About the Book

This text provides undergraduate engineering students with a systematic treatment of both the theory and applications of mechanics of materials. With a strong emphasis on basic concepts and techniques throughout, the text focuses on analytical understanding of the subject by the students.An abundance of worked-out examples, depicting realistic situations encountered in engineering design, are aimed to develop skills for analysis and design of components. To broaden the student's capacity for adopting other forms of solving problems, a few typical problems are presented in C programming language at the end of each chapter.The book is primarily suitable for a one-semester course for B.E./B.Tech students and diploma-level students pursuing courses in civil engineering, mechanical engineering and its related branches of engineering profession such as production engineering, industrial engineering, automobile engineering and aeronautical engineering. About the Author :
M.A. JAYARAM [B.E. (civil), M.Tech (Structures) and MCA] is Assistant Professor in the Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur. He has more than 18 years of teaching experience in civil engineering, and a decade long teaching experience in computer science and engineering. His areas of special interest include soft computing, data mining, analysis and design of algorithms, programming languages, application of artificial intelligence techniques, and CAD in civil engineering. Presently, he is with the Department of Master of Computer Applications. He has published/presented about 40 papers in refereed national and international journals and national and international conferences. He has authored several text books including Design of Bridge Structures (published by Prentice-Hall of India).
