Cai Gao, born in 1946 in Changsha, Hunan, is a renowned Chinese picture book artist and a member of the China Artists Association. In the 1970s, she taught for many years in rural primary schools. In the early 1980s, she worked at Hunan Children's Publishing House. After retiring in 2001, she devoted herself to creating picture books. She is the first Chinese picture book artist to win the Golden Apple Award at the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB), and is considered a milestone figure in the history of Chinese picture book development.
Her representative picture books include The Story of the Peach Blossom Spring, Bao'er (originally published in 1991 under the title The Fox Spirit of the Wilderness), Hua Mulan, Lady Meng Jiang, City of Fire - 1938, The Sixth Day of June: Drying the Dragon Robe, The Hundred-Bird Feather Robe, The Invisible Leaf, Granny Moon, The Story of Birth, and many others.
Among these, The Fox Spirit of the Wilderness (now titled Bao'er) won the Golden Apple Award at the 14th Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB). Hua Mulan and City of Fire - 1938 won the Annual Book (Picture Book) Award at the Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award. She was also shortlisted for the 2024 Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration.
蔡皋，1946年生，湖南长沙人，中国著名绘本画家，中国美术家协会会员。70年代曾长期在乡村小学执教，80年代初供职于湖南少年儿童出版社。2001年退休后致力于绘本创作。是中国第一位获得布拉迪斯拉发国际插画双年展（BIB）金苹果奖的绘本画家，中国绘本发展历史上的里程碑式人物。
绘本代表作有《桃花源的故事》、《宝儿》（1991版书名《荒原狐精》）《花木兰》《孟姜女》《火城--1938》《晒龙袍的六月六》《百鸟羽衣》《隐形叶子》《月亮粑粑》《出生的故事》等。其中，《荒原狐精》（现名《宝儿》）获第14届布拉迪斯拉发国际插画双年展（BIB）金苹果奖，《花木兰》《火城--1938》获陈伯吹国际儿童文学奖年度图书（绘本）奖。入选2024国际安徒生奖插画家短名单。
