About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A novel about the passage to adulthood and the search for sexual identity and friendship by characters who feel out of synch with the world. By the one of today’s most acclaimed Japanese authors, Hiromi Kawakami.

Life has burdened Midori Edo with adult responsibilities too soon. He and his mother, Aiko, live with his grandmother, and he endures regular visits from his shiftless biological father.

But Midori and his family aren’t the only ones constrained by social boundaries and a precarious existence. Hanada, his school friend, wants to dress as a woman to experience misogyny firsthand, even as his girlfriend, Mizue, suffers his indifference.

Something that Glimmers Like the Sea is a story about people who feel like there’s no place for them in their world. Midori, Hanada, Mizue: all walk a tightrope between traditional mores on their way out and a new world just beginning to awaken to change.

Review :

-Go Mag

-Libros y Literatura
