Mothers, activists, revolutionaries, artists, and tireless workers; from their trenches, they have fought to disrupt the patriarchal order, but they have also been the engine that has given a new twist to history, and whose brilliant example is the beacon that guides us towards the future. From the soldaderas of the Revolution; the beloved Jesusa Palancares (protagonist of Hasta no verte Jesús mío); domestic workers; the extraordinary writers Nellie Campobello, Josefina Vicens, and Rosario Castellanos, to the activist Rosario Ibarra de Piedra and the feminist Marta Lamas, this collection of essays shares the legacy of the women who do not know the meaning of surrender. The Elena Poniatowska Library gathers the literary, essayistic, and critical work of the writer who has restored women to their central role in society. In Las indómitas, she pays tribute to the heroines committed to justice and creativity.

About the Author :
Elena Poniatowska Amor nació en París en 1932, pero con tan solo nueve años se trasladó a México, donde se nacionalizó. Su carrera se inició en el ejercicio del periodismo en 1953, disciplina que nunca ha abandonado. Doctora honoris causa por ocho universidades y galardonada con el Premio Nacional de Lingüística y Literatura en 2002, entre sus obras destacan: Hasta no verte Jesús mío (1969, Premio Mazatlán), La noche de Tlatelolco (1971, Premio Xavier Villaurrutia, rechazado), Querido Diego, te abraza Quiela (1978), La Flor de Lis (1988), Tinísima (1992, Premio Mazatlán), Paseo de la Reforma (1996), La piel del cielo (2001, Premio Alfaguara), Leonora (2011, Premio Biblioteca Breve), El universo o nada. Biografía del estrellero Guillermo Haro (2013), Dos veces única (2015), Las indómitas (2016) y El amante polaco (2019, 2021). También ha escrito cuentos, reunidos en De noche vienes (1979), Tlapalería (2003) y Hojas de papel volando (2014), libros de entrevistas, ensayos y crónicas. Su obra ha sido traducida a más de quince idiomas y su trayectoria como periodista y escritora ha sido galardonada con múltiples premios nacionales e internacionales, como el Premio Cervantes, reconocimiento que recibió en 2013. Elena Poniatowska Amor was born in Paris in 1932, but at just nine years old, she moved to Mexico, where she became a naturalized citizen. Her career began in journalism in 1953, a discipline she has never abandoned. She has received honorary doctorates from eight universities and was awarded the National Prize for Linguistics and Literature in 2002. Among her notable works are: Hasta no verte Jesús mío (1969, Mazatlán Prize), La noche de Tlatelolco (1971, Xavier Villaurrutia Prize, which she declined), Querido Diego, te abraza Quiela (1978), La Flor de Lis (1988), Tinísima (1992, Mazatlán Prize), Paseo de la Reforma (1996), La piel del cielo (2001, Alfaguara Prize), Leonora (2011, Biblioteca Breve Prize), El universo o nada. Biografía del estrellero Guillermo Haro (2013), Dos veces única (2015), Las indómitas (2016), and El amante polaco (2019, 2021). She has also written short stories, collected in De noche vienes (1979), Tlapalería (2003), and Hojas de papel volando (2014), as well as books of interviews, essays, and chronicles. Her work has been translated into more than fifteen languages, and her career as a journalist and writer has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including the Cervantes Prize, which she received in 2013.
