About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION «Over more than five decades, he has consolidated a literary voice of remarkable elegance and profound reflection, in which he combines critical lucidity with a narrative sensitivity... His work is at once a memory of modern Mexico and a mirror of the human condition». --Jury's decision of the Miguel de Cervantes Prize 2025 The encounter with great authors of Latin American literature. Delightful memoirs filled with humor and passion. Between fiction and testimony, essay and memory, this book reveals facets of the lives of several writers whom Gonzalo Celorio had the opportunity to meet and befriend: Arreola, Cortázar, Rulfo, Fuentes, Monterroso, García Márquez, Loynaz, Eco. Beyond indiscretions, what prevails is the critical admiration that Celorio professes for them; beyond the author's own self, the prominence of the writers; beyond the painful, pathetic, or laughable anecdote, the appreciation of their works--both literary and of life itself--which merge in this book charged with literary passion as well as humor and irony. Delightful pages that invite rereading.
