Er war der "König von Deutschland," skandierte "Macht kaputt, was euch kaputt macht" und rührte unzählige Fans mit lyrischen Songs wie "Übers Meer" Rio Reiser, der einstige Sänger der 70er-Jahre-Anarcho-Rockband Ton Steine Scherben, war schon zu Lebzeiten eine Legende. Zehn Jahre nach Rios frühem Tod schildert Hollow Skai zum ersten Mal umfassend das atemlose Leben des besten deutschen Rocksängers. Als Rio Reiser am 20. August 1996 starb, verstummte eine Legende. Keiner sang mit so viel Überzeugung und Inbrunst gegen die herrschenden Verhältnisse an wie der Sänger der Band Ton Steine Scherben, deren Songs ein Vierteljahrhundert lang als Soundtrack bei Hausbesetzungen dienten. Keiner erzählte in seinen Songs so eindringlich von Sehnsüchten und unglücklicher Liebe. Hollow Skai, der als intimer Kenner Rio Reiser 25 Jahre lang immer wieder interviewt, porträtiert und live erlebt hat, sprach mit Rios Brüdern, Liebhabern und Freunden, Musikern und Managern und schildert anlässlich des 10. Todestages das ganze Leben des Polit-Rockers: Rios Wirken in der Band Ton Steine Scherben, seine Solo-Karriere nach der Auflösung der Band 1985, seine Arbeit als Theatermusiker und nicht zuletzt seine schwule Identität, seine umstrittene PDS-Mitgliedschaft nach der Wende und seine Alkohol- und Drogensucht. Herausgekommen ist dabei eine kritische Biografie, die Rio Reiser nicht auf seine Scherben-Zeit reduziert, sondern auch aufzeigt, wie groß sein Einfluss auf Gruppen wie Söhne Mannheims oder Wir sind Helden bis heute ist. Das eindringliche Porträt eines Künstlers, der die Musikszene von den 70er- bis zu den 90er-Jahren maßgeblich prägte und ein Stück deutsch-deutsche Geschichte schrieb.
