Die Bildtheorie hat sich jüngst dem Begriff der Form zugewandt. Der vorliegende Band verfolgt vor diesem Hintergrund das Ziel, den vielfältigen Zusammenhängen von Form und Bild, die in der Epoche der Moderne seit ca. Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts zu beobachten sind, nachzugehen und ihre historischen, theoretischen und methodischen Voraussetzungen zu beleuchten. Das semantische Feld von Formbildung und Formbegriff umreißt dabei einen Gegenstandsbereich, der eine doppelte Herangehensweise nahelegt: die Untersuchung der theoretischen Implikationen von Formbegriffen der Moderne sowie die historische Analyse spezifischer künstlerischer Positionen, die in ihren verschiedenen Verbindungen untereinander erfasst werden sollen.

About the Author :
Markus Klammer studierte Philosophie, Kunstgeschichte und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft in Wien. Er war Mitglied des Graduiertenkollegs "Bild und Wissen" bei eikones NFS Bildkritik an der Universität Basel und Junior Fellow des Internationalen Forschungszentrums Kulturwissenschaften Wien. Seine Promotion im Fach Philosophie legte er an der Universität Wien mit einer Arbeit zum Verhältnis von Material und Darstellung in der Psychoanalyse Freuds ab. Danach war er als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Modul "Die Kunst und die Künste" des Nationalen Forschungsschwerpunktes "Bildkritik" tätig und nun als Schaulager-Professor für Kunsttheorie am Kunsthistorischen Seminar der Universität Basel.
Malika Maskarinec studierte Philosophie und Germanistik am Reed College und promovierte an der University of Chicago im Fach Germanistik. Den Ph.D. erlangte sie mit der Arbeit "Balancing Acts: The Acrobatics of Form and Force 1900-1930." Sie war Postdoc im Nationalen Forschungsschwerpunkt "Bildkritik" im Modul "Form und Bild in der Moderne" und ist seit 2015 Geschäftsführerin bei eikones.
Ralph Ubl studierte Kunstgeschichte und Philosophie an der Universität Wien und promovierte auch dort. Er war Professor für Kunstgeschichte an der Staatlichen Akademie der bildenden Künste Karlsruhe und an der University of Chicago. Derzeit ist er Ordinarius für Neuere Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Basel und Direktor des Nationalen Forschungsschwerpunktes (NFS) "Bildkritik".
Rahel Villinger hat in Berlin, Princeton und Chicago Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft, Germanistik und Philosophie studiert. Sie ist Mitarbeiterin bei eikones. Ihre Promotion erfolgte an der Universität Princeton zum Thema der Anschauung und Einbildungskraft bei Kant (PhD thesis title: "Kant's Theory of Intuition: On Singularity and Unity").
