Es kann nicht richtig sein, dass sich so viele Kinder und Jugendliche vor Lehrern fürchten. Es kann auch nicht richtig sein, dass so viele Kinder und Jugendliche nichts an der Schule gut oder sinnvoll bewerten. Der Lehrer als der "Hüter des Wissens" ist genauso überholt und verstaubt wie das Bild von dem "Einzigen, der etwas erklären kann". Wir brauchen keine "Alleswisser" in den Schulen, genauso wenig, wie wir "machtbesessene Be- und Verurteiler" brauchen. Wir brauchen Verbündete der Schüler, die mit ihnen planen, besprechen und die sie beraten. Diese neue Rolle braucht aber auch die geeigneten Rahmenbedingungen. Grundlage der neuen Lehrerrolle ist die Montessori-Pädagogik und deren Fortführung in der Sekundarstufe, der Daltonplan. Jeder Schüler wählt einen Betreuungslehrer aus, mit dem er Pläne macht, Ziele definiert und immer wieder checkt, ob die gesetzten Ziele auch erreicht werden, so wie es der Daltonplan fordert. Der Lehrer hilft dort weiter, wo er gebraucht wird. Und er behält den Überblick, welcher seiner Betreuungsschüler in welchem Fach Unterstützung braucht oder ganz alleine zurechtkommt. Die hohe Kunst der Pädagogik ist es, zu sehen, welche Hilfe ein Schüler wann braucht. Jeder Schüler soll selbst probieren dürfen und Fehler machen dürfen; es soll aber kein Schüler an Fehlern verzweifeln. Das Intervenieren eines Lehrers zum richtigen Zeitpunkt ist eine schwierige Aufgabe, die man nur durch viel Geduld und gutes Be-obachten lernen kann. Lehrer müssen sich auch für Konflikte und besondere Situationen in der Schule zuständig fühlen. Unsere Kinder sollen nicht lernen, dass man sich das "schon selbst ausmacht", was in den meisten Fällen heißt, dass der siegt, der mehr Gewalt anwendet. Es ist überhaupt nicht lustig, wenn sich Lehrer nicht in Streitigkeiten einmischen und Kinder von Mitschülern geprügelt und bedrängt, ja sogar erpresst werden.
