Aus der Zusammenfassung: Das Stadt-Image ist ein subjektives Vorstellungsbild der Menschen von ihrer Stadt und ist aus vielfaltigen Komponenten zusammengesetzt, welche jedoch nicht zwangslaufig mit den objektiven Tatsachen ubereinstimmen mussen. Unabhangig von ihrer Verankerung in realen Gegebenheiten wirken sich diese Meinungsbilder auf das raumliche Verhalten der betreffenden Personen aus, z.B. bei der Wahl des Wohnortes, eines Reisezieles oder eines Unternehmensstandortes. Entscheidungen zur Wahl eines Wohnorts oder eines Unternehmensstandortes sind somit nicht nur an "harte" Fakten wie Kostenvorteile geknupft, sondern eben - oft unwillkurlich - auch an "weiche" Faktoren wie die Lebensqualitat einer Stadt. Das Eigen-Image, das die Einwohner von ihrer Stadt haben, kann sich dabei durchaus vom Fremd-Image, beispielsweise der Touristen oder Besucher, unterscheiden. Fur die Stadtplanung sind Imageanalysen insofern von Bedeutung, als sie die Starken und Schwachen einer Stadt als Wohnort, Arbeitsort, Touristendestination oder Unternehmensstandort aufdecken konnen und sich somit die Strategien zur Stadtentwicklung entsprechend anpassen lassen. Die vorliegenden Studien beschaftigen sich mit dem Image von Basel als Wohn- und Arbeitsort bzw. als Reiseziel. Fur die Erhebung wurden 3862 Bewohner von Basel und der Region sowie 554 Besucher und Touristen in Basel, Freiburg i. Br. Und Mulhouse befragt. Eine weitere Untersuchung ermittelt das Image von Basel-Stadt bei Hochtechnologieunternehmen und Forschungsgruppen in der Schweiz.
