In der Nachfolge zum Symposium uber John Ruskin veranstaltete die Stiftung Bibliothek Werner Oechslin in Einsiedeln vom 24. bis 26. August 2001 ein internationales Kolloquium zu Viollet-le-Duc, dessen Akten in dieser Publikation vorgelegt werden. Eugene Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (1814-1879) war nicht nur als Architekt und Restaurator tatig, sondern hinterliess auch ein reiches kunsttheoretisches Werk, das ebenso wie seine architektonischen Losungen bereits auf die Zeitgenossen grossen Einfluss ausubte. Viollet-le-Ducs Schaffen, seine Haltung gegenuber der Gotik, seine Reisen, Schriften und Kontakte zu Zeitgenossen sowie schliesslich die mitunter kontroverse Rezeption seines Werkes sind Thema der in diesem Buch versammelten Beitrage internationaler Fachautorinnen und -autoren.

Daher mag es angemessen sein, sich auch mit der anderen Seite dieses genialen Mannes zu beschaftigen und seinen kunstlerischen und weitblickenden kunsttheoretischen Gehalt naher kennenzulernen.
