About the Author :
Heinrich August Marschner wurde am 16. August 1795 in Zittau (Sachsen) geboren. Insbesondere vom Vater früh musikalisch gefördert, begann er schon im Kindesalter, Sonaten und andere Instrumentalstücke zu komponieren; auch erste Lieder finden sich unter den Werken jener Zeit. Größte Bedeutung erlangte er als Komponist auch international berühmt gewordener Opern, namentlich Der Vampyr (1828) und Hans Heiling (1832), mit denen er sich in die Phalanx der bekanntesten Tondichter der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts einreihte. Noch heute wird Marschner als führender deutscher Opernkomponist der Zeit zwischen 1830 und 1850 angesehen; seine Werke gelten als wichtigstes Bindeglied zwischen denen Carl Maria von Webers und Richard Wagners. Insbesondere letzterer wurde von dem in Marschners Opern kultivierten dramatisch geführten Sprechgesang maßgeblich beeinflusst. Heinrich Marschner, der nach Stationen in Dresden und Leipzig bis 1859 als Hofkapellmeister in Hannover diente, starb ebenda am 14. Dezember 1861.
