About the Book

The general purpose of the "Advances in Desert and Arid Land Technology and Development" series is to bring an interdisciplinary approach to the problems of desert technology and development. This series includes work and review articles covering science, technology, engineering, agriculture, architecture, sociology, management and economics of desert and arid land utilization and development. Volume 5 of this series covers the proceedings of the Second International Desert Development Conference. Part 1 of the two-part set covers the areas of desert agriculture, ecology and biology. Topics of special interest include agricultural development through the use of systems research and computer techniques, including remote sensing, salt water irrigation, laser land-leveling, and nutrient cycling and nitrogen fixation.
