Huel nennt sich sowohl das Unternehmen als auch ihr Produkt: ein vollwertiges Nahrungsmittel in Pulverform. Der Name ist ein Kunstwort, zusammen gesetzt aus "human fuel". Das Basisprodukt, das Huel Pulver, soll den gesamten täglichen Bedarf des Körpers an Vitaminen, Mineralstoffen, Fetten, Proteinen, Kohlenhydraten und Phytonährstoffen decken können. Das Pulver setzt sich zusammen aus Haferflocken, braunem Reis, Erbsenprotein, Sonnenblumenkernen, Leinsamen, Kokosnuss- MCTs, verschiedenen Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln (Vitamine und Mineralstoffe), sowie einem Vanillearoma und Süßstoffen. Zusammen mit Wasser lässt sich so in einem Shaker innerhalb weniger Sekunden eine vollwertige Mahlzeit in flüssiger Form "zubereiten". Das Unternehmen wurde 2014 von Julian Hearn in Aylesbury, England, gegründet und ist inzwischen eines der am schnellsten wachsenden Unternehmen Großbritanniens. Die Originalrezeptur des Pulvers wurde von dem registrierten Ernährungsberater James Collier formuliert und sollte die empfohlenen Tagesmengen aller Nährstoffe enthalten, wie sie von der Europäischen Behörde für Lebensmittelsicherheit angegeben wurden. Dabei sollte es gleichzeitig vegan und umweltfreundlich sein. Ein Jahr nach Gründung wurde im Juni 2015 erstmals Huel Pulver in 1,75 kg Tüten ausgeliefert, 2016 folgte eine Gluten-freie Version. 2016 begann Huel außerdem in weitere Länder Europas auszuliefern und ab 2017 war es auch in den USA verfügbar.
