Schulverweigerung stellt den Überbegriff für Verhaltensmuster dar, in dem Schüler/innen sich während der Unterrichtszeit nicht in der Schule aufhalten, sondern alternative Räume bevorzugen. In den vergangenen Jahren zieht das Phänomen der Schulverweigerung Aufmerksamkeit im Bereich der pädagogischen, psychologischen, medizinischen und soziologischen Forschung auf sich, da die Zahl der Schulverweigerer/innen dramatisch steigt. Da die Teilnahme am schulischen Unterricht die Voraussetzung für ein integriertes Leben in der Gesellschaft darstellt, begeben sich Schulverweigerer pädagogisch gesehenen in negative Entwicklungskreisläufe. Sie laufen Gefahr den gesellschaftlichen Ansprüchen bezüglich sozialer Anpassung und beruflichem Leistungsverhalten nicht entsprechen zu können und auch nach der Schulzeit von Ausgrenzungsprozessen betroffen zu sein. Schulverweigerung stellt somit kein rein schulisches Problem dar, da die Verweigerung der Schule mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit die berufliche und die damit verbundene soziale Desintegration miteinbezieht. Diese Ausarbeitung setzt sich mit der Studie "Abgeschrieben? Ergebnisse einer empirischen Untersuchung über Schulverweigerung" auseinander, die u.a. mit der Methode des problemzentrierten Interviews arbeitet und die Problematik der Schulverweigerung aus verschieden Perspektiven betrachtet, um so zu einem differenzierten Ergebnis über Ursachen und Präventionsmöglichkeiten zu gelangen.
